Welcome to the Miss Coon Rapids Pageant candidate sisterhood! We are so excited to have you compete and hope you gain a lot from this experience.  This year, we are celebrating our 59th year of the Miss Coon Rapids Scholarship Competition.  We are an organization with long standing traditions and have had some fantastic Queens representing our city.  More than that, we have had fabulous contestants who come back year after year vying for this prestigious title. 

Important Dates and Times

January 17th – Paperwork, Headshots and Sponsorship Fee Due

January 27th – Schedule of events

·      Arrive at promptly for rehearsal – 9:00 AM Doors Open, rehearsal begins at 9:30 

·      Interviews times TBD

·      Following interview talent rehearsal

·      Pageant starts: 4:00 pm

January 27th - First Appearance MAY be promptly following pageant for Kick off of SnowFlake Days at Bunker Hills Golf Course - make sure to bring appropriate appearance attire, photos will be taken

January 28th - Guns and Hoses Hockey Game, Coon Rapids Ice Center 12:30 - 2:30pm

Head Shot for Program Book

  1. We will need a black and white image for the program book, these should be from the waist up, showcasing your face, preferably with a plain, non-busy background

  2. Photo release MUST be turned in – this is on our website. You will not be able to compete without this form filled out.

  3. Please email to pbsteda@gmail.com with your name and “Teen” or “Miss” in the subject line. If you have a sponsor please include the name of your sponsor to be included in the program book.

Competition Wardrobe

Private Interview: Miss and Teen will compete in a private interview with the judges. Wardrobe will be professional attire, appropriate for a business interview. Miss and Teen interviews will be 10 minutes including a 30 second opening and a 30 second closing statement.

Opening Number: Miss and Teen will be asked to wear a black cocktail dress of their choosing. The opening number will not have a dance, but rather a walking pattern with an introduction of yourself and area of schooling.  This will be discussed in rehearsal.  Accessories and shoes are the contestant’s choice. 

Miss On-Stage Question: the question will be written by the judges and a continuation of your job interview.  Answer will be timed and cannot exceed 20 seconds.  Outfit will be your opening number black cocktail dress.

Health and Fitness: Miss and Teen will be asked to wear aerobic/activewear of their choosing - click Here for examples of silhouettes. Candidates will model activewear with poses that demonstrate their commitment to a healthy lifestyle.

Evening Gown: Miss will compete in Evening Wear of their chooing appropiate for Red Carpet.  Teen will compete in Evening Wear and answer On-stage Question in Evening Wear of their choosing.  Teen On Stage Questions will be written about your platform, answer not to exceed 20 seconds.

Talent: Miss and Teen Talent up to 90 seconds maximum

Crowning will be at the end of the pageant with all contestants in their evening wear.

Bid-A Basket

As a fundraiser, we ask that each contestant bring an item or basket which can be added to our silent auction that will occur during the pageant.  Baskets to be handed in at rehearsal the morning of pageant day.  Ideas: Camping Basket, Girls Night In Basket, Dog Treat Basket, Valentine Décor Basket

Community Service Award (optional)

This year, the Coon Rapids North Star Lions Club is sponsoring the pageant in the form of a Community Service Award.  This cash scholarship in the amount of $250 will be awarded to one contestant, in both Teen and Miss, who best represents themselves and their volunteer work in the form of a short essay.  All contestants must write one essay (a one-page maximum) answering the following questions.  The Coon Rapids North Star Lions Club will be reading and judging these essays.

1)     In what ways have you actively volunteered in your community? Why have you chosen to serve here?

2)     Why do you think community service is important to your generation?

3)     What have you learned from volunteering?

4)     How do you plan to make volunteering a lifelong commitment?
